    hardware by who?

    As far as dells go...maybe inspiron 1525...who makes the hardware, like HD, and dvd drive...?
    I know Toshibas use fujitsu HD's and (Toshiba), Fujitsu's use (Fujitsu), and I believe Hitachi...
    Just curious about Dell...

    Dell uses ALL manner of hardware. Trust me, it is pretty hard to list it all out on a forum. I have a WD hard drive, AUO screen, HL-DT DVD burner (not sure on that one) hyundai RAM (seems to be the favored brand) and it goes on and on.

    Generally speaking, they use equipment from big name, well established companies, however as they are a huge OEM outfit, they do have some say as to the specifications that they have to meet. This means that most times you have a match to anything you might buy off the shelf, however I would never say that the equipment is 100% identical.

    They generally use pretty good stuff however, and if you check consumer reports, you should find that they are definitely one of the more reliable brands. And remember, if you hate their parts there are some parts that you can swap out on your own.
