    i have an old dimension 4400 desktop..and the fan is terribly loud and is constantly on...is there any way i can decrease the fan noise?....

    Getting a new one would be your best option I'm sure. Start with cleaning out the case and fan first though.

    I had a similar problem like this a few weeks ago with my old desktop. Cleaning out the dust, etc. definitely helped. I suggest opening up the case and using a handheld vacuum cleaner, plus a damp paper towel to get the rest.

    But, if the noise persists, then you should just get and install a new fan. They are cheap, only a few dollars. Try Newegg.com.

    Just get a regular case fan. $3-$6 would be reasonable for a price.
