    I have a dell inspiron 1520,
and am having a serious issue with the keyboard

Every 2 minutes or so, the lights on the media buttons at the front of the laptop flash and my keyboard starts typing random letters,

its really quite annoying as i cant play any games as random actions keep occuring by the keypresses.

I replaced the keyboard but to no avail.

Any ideas what it could be?

    Thanks!

Software problem maybe? Just yesterday my 't' button wouldn't work... after a reset it was good. Have you tried a full hard drive format?

I would suggest a full antivirus scan first.

A full hard drive format  ? That does sound a bit excessive as a first step... As well the OP could be loosing data by following your advice without a proper backup.

Do you somehow by chance using a wireless keyboard on occasion and the dongle is still attached to your laptop? And the wireless keyboard is under some books or whatever?

Another possibility is spilled liquids under the keyboard. If so, dry it thoroughly with a hair dryer.

You sure nobody has installed any discreet prank hardware or software on your computer? It sounds a bit fishy to me.

"I'm krusty the clown and I don't like you..."
"I'm kursty the clown and I'm gonna kill you..."

Well replace the phrase "Krusty the clown" with Inspiron 1520 and "kill you" with electric shock.

I say I'm gonna kill you; that means you, thegr8one23!!

No seriously, you can try to scan for viruses and everything under the hood and see if it helps. I suspect punkware as someone has pointed out. I know horrible stuff like that has really demonic controls to the keyboard.

Just simply contact Dell on this matter. They will figure it out.
