    hi
i bought my dell 1520 a while ago and it's fine and all that. i got over the bit of graininess the monitor has and it's a great laptop but recently when i was opening the screen one of the hinges happened to break off (so i'm stuck with just one) and the bottom left side of the screen popped off: you know when you open the laptop top the place that rotates at the bottom side just broke off.

so i was wondering if i could call and get a replacement to fix these problems and hopefully it isn't more defective but i wanted to know if they will actually replace it.

i got Limited Technical Support with dell and some other one called Rapid Response Depot from SOL (no clue who that is) and was wondering if either would replace. i bought my laptop in september as well. i hope that's enough info. oh and ill be calling dell in may after im done all my exams and am not in need of my laptop.

You should be covered, you are still under the mfg warranty and it sounds like it is normal wear and tear. Give them a call and see what they say.

I think it really depends on whether they determine you broke it or if it was a part failure. It is hard to say if they will cover it under warranty or not.

well let's say i dropped it by mistake (not saying that did happen) and it broke in the places i said, they wouldn't replace it?

if i call what should i say? i was planning on telling them i opened it like any normal day and it fell off. the second part broke off a couple of days later.

since it broke off when you were opening it, tell them that-- best to be honest.

also, if you dropped it, you would have to have accidental coverage also.... to be covered
