hello everybody, im a new in this kind of things and wanted to know something.
i just bought the e1705 with wuxga screen and the nvidia 7900gs from dell, and what i really want to know is:
    a) will i be able to play the newest and older games in lower resolution without being affected by bluriness..say 1440*900 and so on?...cause im sure that i wont be able to play the newest games at the native resolution for too long.:confused :
b)is it true that with windows vista i will be able to change from native resolution without the screen becoming distorted and blurry cause of its high definition support?

thanks in advanced my friends!! :)

You won't be able to have the screen out of native resolution and have it be not blurry. You'll notice the difference right away between native and non-native. However, if you keep the widescreen aspect ratio, the difference should not be too drastic. You won't notice or care much while gaming.

The Go7900GS is a very powerful video card and you should be able to play most games (with the exception of FEAR, Oblivion) at 1920x1200 if they support it. Not all games support widescreen resolutions, but many can be modified to do so . . check out www.widescreengamingforum.com for that.

The details on that first part are very sketchy, but there are ways to do that. It wouldn't be because of the high-definition support though. Microsoft is really going to push for a full high-definition experience mainly on its top-end version of Vista.

Yeah your games will still look good. I looked at Far Cry at 1024x768 and it still looked good, even though you can play it at native res.

If you play games at the native res. on the WUXGA screen, your games will certainly look stunning, but you will notice a slight slow down in performance if you don't have enough RAM. I say the SXGA is the sweetspot for a WUXGA screen paired with the 7800/7900 on the E1705 for performance and graphics quality.

The blur on these WUXGA screens is not as bad as some would let you believe. At 1680x1050 it's hard to tell the difference. I run my E1705 at 1440x900 and the blur doesn't bother me at all, or at the very least it bothers me much less than turning up the dpi in order to read the screen from a reasonable distance.

I'll also testify that Oblivion runs on max settings at 1440x900 with the 7900GS, with the caveat that I am admittedly more interested in eye candy than high framerates. It is definitely playable, though.

I don't notice a huge difference from the 1680x1200 to the 1920x1200. I just bought WoW and run it @ native res. I must say I am lost in the game though.

what am i missing here, why would one want to play a game at lower than the best achievable resolution?

Framerate. Lower resolution means higher framerate.

Like I said, I do everything at 1440x900 on that WUXGA. The difference is almost unnoticable until probably 1280x800 and lower.
