Hi, I just got my 1520 and am needing a bit of advice and help in getting it performing to best. I am mostly interested in getting best performance for games; eg getting best gfx drivers etc. I should add that I have pretty basic knowledge it comes to these matters, so simple, detailed explanations on what I could/should do are most welcome!

    My system:
Dell Inspiron 1520 T7300 running on XP pro
    3 gig ram
7200 rpm SATA performance hard drive
    GE Force 8600M GT 256mg

    Thanx in advance

My first piece of advice would be to put Vista back on there... It should perform like a champ :D

Then you'd be best visiting laptopvideo2go or the gaming section for graphics driver discussion...

yeah i had to put xp on it cos i need to use it at work (actually work payed 1/2!) and the rest of our network is still on xp.
I had a look at that forum but I don't know enough to work my way around. i really just need to know what driver to get, exactly where to get it, and how to install it properly and get it to run.
If you can help with this it would be great; if not, cheers anyway.

Well, you can network XP and vista together easily, I do it myself, I back all my data off my 1520, which runs vista, to my desktop which is XP. Flawless and really name easy but what ever you prefer!

As for drivers, laptopvideo2go.com is the way to go!
Last time I checked, 162 something was the best. But just review they're forums, my advice go on there and look for threads regarding, best drivers for a 8600m GT. They'd know cuz they do nothing but play with drivers over there. Me I'm still running on default ones, don't do much gaming lately.

Theres nothing I can think of to make the 1520 run better, mines takes everything I throw at it, from web development to 3D Animation and occasional gaming. Keep the vents open, and make sure the machine stays crispy cool :)

    Not very much help.
