Hi,
just decided to buy Dell Inspiron 6000 and am trying to figure out the best options :
I decided to go for Centrino M730 1.6 to save money and invest them in larger harddrive, though I am still not sure whether to buy 80GB (5400)or 60GB (7200), is not the 7200 too noisy and is the speed difference realyy noticeable??
Also am not sure whether to upgrade the screen to WSXGA, so again is the difference really striking? Is it much brighter?
I want to use the notebook basically for everything, net, office, but
would like to watch quality DVD movies and play some games, though not
necessarily top spec. Could you help? Thanks

I got the WXGA, mainly because I am a gamer, since most games will only play at the native resolution 1280x800. But for office programs you may want to think about the ability to get a higher resolution (more screen space)
Will it be brighter? No. Technically speaking, the wxga wsga and wuga should all be exactly the same, except that the more expensive versions can get higher resolutions. You may hear different though.
I would definately get either the 64 MB or 128 MB x300 video card, its definately worth it.
Also, get the 9cell battery, also worth it.
I'm not sure, but last time I checked I don't think the 6000 came with the 7200 RPM drive. There is a noticable difference in load speeds with the 7200 and 5400, but usually only noticeable to the computer nerd.
512 dual channel ram has worked out well for me.

bobovicz,
Are you really not going to use it for high end editing, graphics, basically work related? Do you want like you said for basic overall use with nothing "extra" heavy?
If so , dont bother with the 60 HD 7200 RPM''s. Also if you would choose the 60HD 7200RPM's then it would go without saying you would want the NVIDIA 256MB 6800 card which is not an option for the 6000! It's not worth it for you and the 6000 from what you've said. Otherwise I would have to suggest going with the 9300. Get the 80HD! Unless you put them side by side you can not see a difference. If you are not a Hard Core Gamer or using it for work related issues,etc... Go for the 80 HD, definitely get the TrueLife as long as the resolution and extreme shiny reflection wont bother you. Don't be like other people that really didn't put thought into the resolution or know what it was like until they received it( the extremely shiny refective display also) and are now working constantly to try and find a comfortable way to view it.
If It's a non issue and you like things a bit small (consider that this is on a 17" WSXUGA display not a 12,14,15 ) and if you stick as close to the original resolution with the default DPI at 120 It's going to work the way it was built to work , with a few tweaks if you want like changing the DPI to 96 making the icons/text smaller but leaving the resolution at 1920x 1200 for the best picture. Also a few other little things some people like... "Clear type" and a bunch of other little things. I've been on this forum reading all the problems people have once thay start playing around with the resolution. just be sure you are OK with it and Definitely get the Truelife if you can, comfortably. I love everything about the 9300 (even totally ignoring 2/3 things I consider could be better) except for the base display. It's a bright display but ,grainy, not sharp/crisp ,etc... a basic LCD screen (and that's not a defective one ..mine was defective). The TrueLife is going to be shiny and reflect everything. It's sharp, sleek, vibrant and if you want that ,then you'll adjust quickly.
Don't start putting in the back of your mind the few problems people post about a sparkle efect. Don't ask! Don't worry about it or you'll make it show up if you look hard enough.
Please don't forget that this is only "MY" opinion! I'm on the computer doing nothing fancy (just what you described) 12-15 hours every day and I despised the regular display unless it was my first notebook , then to be honest with you I would love it! I've had too many computers to see the difference. I still would say for a first purchase that it's overall very good! I have no clue if it is your first notebook because then if it is or It's a money issue , I would say go with the basic NOT TrueLife display and it would be great!
Again, this is only "one" persons opinion.
Good Luck,

Mozirry,
I don't have a clue about what point I made that made you think I was suggesting another model. Unless Bobovicz wanted to go larger with the 9300 and I wasn't suggesting that either.
Mozirry Thanks for being nice...especially after your Dell credit issue and how I was surprised you weren't backing me up because I was there to help you. So I appreciate the nice compliment but it doesn't apply to anything I said. I did not suggest another model ...especially the ones you mentioned because they wouldn't even be close.
I'm sorry but I don't think anyone would have a clue as to what you're referring to! Sorry!

yeah, heart has a point, maybe you should be looking at different models other than the 6000. Perhaps the 600m or 700m?
help with I6000 configuration
