just installed xp basicall following link, my machine has vista installed already.
everything went ok until using easybcd to add a xp entry.
after i added the entry, restart, choose xp to boot, it says files under \ntldr is missing or corrupt?

can you post a screen shot of the entries in easybcd? it sounds like the entry for xp is bad....... it can't boot into xp
i know vista is on C:, do you have the correct drive letter, etc for xp
we're swamped right now, so i'll check back later. also, I assume you did the repair to the vista install and you have easy installed on vista, is that right? -
nobscot6, thank you.
i figured out after some googling.
i installed vista on c: (primary), and xp on d: (extended). in easybcd i set wrong: although xp is on d:, but you should set the drive to c: since all the ntldr and other boot files are located at c:. i set to d: first, and no good. after change the drive for xp to c:, everything worked. -
trying to install xp drivers now.
also confirmed that media direct works fine with xp, vista dual boot. very nice!! -
how did u get media direct to work with dual booting xp and vista?
-
just finished installing xp drivers.
well, let me think what i have done.
1. use media direct 3.3 disk to wipe out the hard disk, i choose option 2 to get 4 partitions: dell diagnostics, c: for vista, d: unformatted for xp and 2g md partition;
2. install vista on c:; install all drivers; leave d: unformatted;
3. put winxp disk (i have one with sata drivers included, so no need to switch from AHCI to ATA mode in bios; also service pack 3 beta included). install xp on d:. it will ask you to format it, i chose regular format (not fast format, but this should not matter);
4. you should be able to boot into xp now, but vista is not working. use vista install dvd to fix the BCD (i have a link at the top of this thread);
5. now you can boot into vista, but xp is not bootable. download easybcd to modify the bootloader. ATTENTION: when set drive for xp, although I installed on d:, i have to set the drive to c:, otherwise not working; this is because winxp install NTLDR and all other files in c: by default. it is odd but it works.
6. then install all drivers if necessary.
after i finished these procedures, i can dual boot and use md.
(i am using m1330) -
Which os did you finish installing media direct within?
-
i basically followed the clean install thread.
finished installing MD within vista installation. -
has anybody else tried this way of dual booting and having md work?
-
-
I have MD working in dual-boot but completely different method, and am using both 3.3 AND 3.5 blu-ray edition.
-
I just wanted to know if anybody else tried this way of dualbooting and if it worked, b4 i reformat and do it . which version of md do you have btw?
-
Can you explain your method plz.
-
Bumpty bump

I can tell you what I did.
1. dual boot using easyBCD
2. install MD 3.3 on XP from a vostro 1500 cd (when you put the cd in it will say "your system isn't meant for this prog. blah blah" ignore the warning, explore the cd contents and run the install file)
results: when I boot to MD I get MD 3.5, when I hit the MD button in vista I get MD 3.5, when I hit the MD button in XP I get MD 3.3. Main dif. between 3.5 and 3.3 is that 3.3 won't play blu-ray I see no other dif.
