you need to edit your boot.ini file

right click on my computer-->properties-->advanced tab-->"settings" under the startup and recovery-->edit-->delete the line that starts with multi-->save and reboot.

is there 2 options in your boot.ini file or just 1?

You should see two lines similar to this, but you only need to have 1 line - so the other needs to be deleted.
And no, you didn't do anything wrong. This is a common problem with XP. For some reason when you format, it wrote an extra line in your boot.ini file instead of just writing over the current line.

Is that all of your boot.ini file?

I'm confused on what you are trying to do and what you did. You reformatted. Did you reformat over the XP partition (partition 2 or C: drive)? or did you install XP on another partition and kept your XP partition?
