i want your help to make a better decision.which one is better:

Asus W7J ftw
-
if price is not a factor then i would suggest going with the sony sz because it is nicer, it has a slightly bigger screen, and its nicer
-
thnx,but dell has 2 advantages:
1-has a smaller screen that make it smaller at all
2-with same configuration dell is cheaper than sony,
do u work with these notebooks? someone says sony quality is very good but dell is not,is it correct?

You may want to check the specs a little more closely. I'm not sure what your main concern with portability is, but the W7J is actually lighter than the xps m1210.
Take a look at the two pictures... Notice the casing around the screen.
W7J:
12.41" x 8.92" x 1.15-1.46".
XPS M1210:
11.7" x 8.7" x 1.4"
Despite having an extra 1.2" of screen, the difference in dimensions are relatively small. You'll notice the W7J is actually thinner for the most part (it's slanted from back to front)
The W7J is actually quite cheap compared to the xps1210 and the build quality is far superior. In addition to that, it has a superior graphics card. -
I searched the net and found that weight listed for M1210 with a 6cell battery is 2kg while W7J is 1.98Kg, 20g difference is negligible.
Yes I agree, M1210 has wasted lot of space with a big border around the screen.
Not really, I haven’t checked many places, but price of W7J at proportable.com is same as M1210 at dell site, for an identical spec with same 2 year warranty. (with dell you might be able to further reduce the price by a coupon or if you buy from outlet)
M1210 build quality is quite good, not like those inspirons. So I wouldn’t say far superior, maybe little better. (I have used a M1210 and it feels quite solid, however I haven’t used an Asus, so really cant comment on that)
Both come with the same nVidia Go 7400 128MB (256MB Turbocache) adaptor as far as i know. -
Don't let Dells fine print fool you my friend... the m1210 has a 64mb dedicated and 192mb shared. The W7J has 128 dedicated and 128 shared.
20g or 20kg, the notebook is still lighter. We're talking about a thin and light notebook where every 20 grams count. Besides that, I think you missed the point. While the W7J has a bigger screen than the m1210, it's still a lighter notebook (even if only 20g). If his only concern is weight and he wouldn't mind a bigger screen, then the W7J wins.
These are the specs I found
W7J:
4.3lbs (5.6lbs with adapter)
m1210:
4.4lbs (5.8lbs with adapter)
Not sure how you configured it, but the dell I just configured with identical specs (m1210 has slightly better processor) works out to $1762 USD. Milestonepc.com lists the W7J for $1399 USD. That's a savings of $363 USD or 20%...
I haven't had the opportunity to hold either of the notebooks in hand, but I can assure you the Asus has a higher build quality. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I'm really happy with the m1210, and the 64 dedicated memory on the m1210 is a non issue, Turbo cache is implemented in hardware, so there really is no performance difference, I've actually seen a few benchmarks where the 64 meg 7400 pulled slightly ahead of a 128 dedicated.
They are both great laptops, best advice I could give you is to go try and demo them both out and see which one you prefer, with Dell you also have the option of getting a refurb via the outlet and save a lot of money. I originally paid less than $1000 for the one in my sig shipped, after spending a few weeks with dell support on an issue unrelated to the actual machine the total dropped to just under $900 -
hi, thanks iceman
i know that sony is mre expensive, but the quality is important for me. i glad to hear that you are really happy with XPS M1210. they are so close to each other and it's difficult for me to decide one of them -
No comment on the W7J... Glad to know my time in this thread was wasted. I'll have to remember that.

Sorry about the VGA spec, yes M1210 only has 64MB dedicated Vs 128MB of W7J.
Asus notebooks are good, but not many people consider it as a recognized brand. Maybe because they don't see that many Asus notebooks like IBM, DELL or HP. Or maybe because they don't know about the silent ODM role Asus plays behind the scene. Anyways I like Asus notebooks because they pack quite a punch in a relatively small chassis. But they are not always cheap. Maybe in US you might be able to find few online shops with reasonable prices, but that is not always the case elsewhere. For example in Japan (where I live) Asus notebooks are very hard to find, and way too expensive.
Having said that : Just because Asus is generally considered to have a better build quality doesn't mean they are always better than others. XPS M1210 is built on a magnesium-aluminum frame therefore quite stong. A friend of mine recently dropped one from a table on to a hard floor, it has hit the ground on it's edge. The aluminum frame has a dent and the plastic around the edge has few deformities with some scratches.. But still works!. I'm quite amazed that it survived such a drop without any major cracks or breaks, with all the components working. After that incident I have total confidence in M1210s build quality.
hi every body,which one?
