I am in Thailand now, and there is no XPS sold here and my student Visa requires me to stay here at least one more year(without going out here). So I was trying to have DELL US or JAPAN ship it over here , I customized it a few days a go and I thought they would send it to my mom's and she would send it to me or some how Dell US ship it over here.

But now Dell is telling my mom she can not send it out of the US and if she does , Dell will not sell it to her.
So, I asked my sister in Japan to CTO it in Japan and send it to me but Dell Japan also says some international Law requires some special documents , to be able to ship it out of US , Japan.

So do you guys know if Dell some how can ship it out of US or Japan to Thailand without any legal problem ?

I heard many guys bought it out side or asked their family to send it, but Dell says it is impossible.

I do need high resolution screen and NV8600GT combo and I dont know any other model than this XPS or Inspiron 1520/Vostor1500 has this combo , I know some Thinkpad T61P in the US/Japan also have WUXGA or WSXGA+ resolution but they are not available in Thailand, I thought some ASUS F8SN or M51 sn but they had crappy LCD , so I need to buy the XPS M1530 or Inspiron 1520 or Vostro 1500 with the WSXGA+.

please tell me how I can get it without going out of this country.

is there any way my siter or mom can send it to me from US or Japan?

    Thanks in advance.

I don't think you have to specifically tell UPS or FedEx or DHL what exactly is in the box so i don't see how their would be a problem.

I bought my Dell and told them I was buying it because I'm moving to Europe in 2 weeks..They shipped it with business shipping for free and were totally aware that I was leaving the country with it and they had no problem at all...

Edit: Dell told your Mom she can't send it out and if SHE DOES, they won't sell it to her? A Sale is a Sale..Its not like they can magically take it back from her after she sends it....Once they sell it to her she can do whatever she wants with it..Tell her to call Dell back and try a different rep.

Well...the regulation is there so that middlemen won't be able to take the advantage of Dell by exporting laptops in huge quantities to another country for a higher price. Dell sells different computers in different countries not without a reason, so stuff such as trade secrets or even the US government restrictions may be the cause. However, those laws usually apply to exporting mass quantities of laptops outside....say, the US, so if you are just buying for personal use, then just ask your mom/sister to buy it and send it to you with a different case.

Of course, that carries the risk of your laptop been confiscated by the mail carriers, but I guess that's just the risk you'll have to take.

    Then, here's an alternative:

    http://www.myus.com/

It's called Package Forwarding, where you register on their website, they give you an US address, you buy from Dell, tell it to ship the laptop to that address, once the people at myus gets the package, it is then forwarded to where you live (may it be Tailand, China, Vietnam or whatever...). The good thing about myus is that they have special deals with the carriers, and your laptop is less likely going to be confiscated because of that....

    Here's their motto:

"With our package and mail forwarding service,
you now can shop from all of your favorite companies,
even if they do not ship overseas!"

Actually you do need to tell Fedex/UPS/DHL what is in the box. This is required by US Law and international practices. There is a series of paperwork that needs to be completed regarding the contents of the package, customs declaration, origin paperwork, and commerical invoices. The reason why Dell claims that they will not sell the computer to your mother is because there are also international export regulations that need to be followed. If you notice, when purchasing an item through Dell's website, you are asked whether you agree to not resell your product, and whether you plan on exporting your product. If you do plan on exporting the product, Dell needs to verify if the product meets the guidelines of operation and usage in its intended destination.

It appears that since Dell doesn't sell the XPS line in Thailand, there must be some government regulation or some sort of legal implication that is not being met by the product. Hence, there are no direct sales.

All of this being said, however, you must realize that if you have someone willing to ship the item to you, there are legal implications that accompany this action, and you should seek counsel or check with the export regulations of the country of origin and the import regulations of the destination. In all honesty, if there are no direct sales of the product in Thailand, don't expect to get support over there either. If something goes wrong with your system, you may be out of luck.

One final comment - if you do illegaly export the system, and Dell knows, they may void your warranty. In all honesty, I am not sure if this is worth all of the effort that you or your family would have to go through to get the system there.

If you tell Dell that you are sending it to another country, they will not likely sell it to you not because of export regulations, but mainly because they believe you might be re-selling it.

Check the link to the guide on my signature.
    (not a shameless self promotion)

I have purchased several laptops this way and have not had any problems. Although if you have someone purchase it on the US, you can have them send it to you as a gift.

Make sure to insure the package.

Well, she has to fill in some agreement with Dell before buying it and send it over here, the best is that Dell US or Japan , in where I have many of my family members living , accept sending it to my Thailand address.

But if it is impossible , I might go to HK to get it but I know it is over priced there and I'll lose my Thai Visa.

    Thanks.

thanks , I forgot it , but the XPS price in Malayisa is ridiculous compared to the US or Japanese price.

I can buy 2 or 3 in the US for one in Malaysia.

    Starting from 4569RM?

    it is like 1800US.

Thanks , that is more realistic.

I know that I have to tell it to UPS or Fedex when I send it out of the country. When the computer come here , I will be charged 7 percent of the price of the computer as Thai VAT or whatever , last time I imported some Canon lenses that I could never buy in Thailand , I was charged 7 or 8 percent of the whole price (these three lens prices combined)..........11000baht(370Us).

So I know it is not cheap but it would still be cheaper than anything decent in Thailand(I do not consider HP or Toahiba decent brand because they do not offer WSXGA+).

So do you know any how I can get my mom legally ship it over to Thailand?
