What is your laptop resting on? Normally this is the problem.

I'd check your CPU Usage. Open Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del) and hit the performance tab. That heats mine up when it's above about 50%. To constantly monitor your usage, in the Task Manager, click Options, and then hide when minimized. Then minimize it, and on the tray at the bottom right you'll see a little green square with a bar graph on it. That's your CPU usage. Also as said before, what is it resting on?

it was sittin on my antec cooler on my desk. Im usin nhc, and it was over 50%. Spybot was the only thing running, but it was takin up 50%. Its stayin down now. I got worried for a sec

Is your antec cooler setup right ? meaning the air flow is in the right direction .
56c seems high for a 1.6 with a cool pad on , what is your idle ? should be around 35c . -
w/ the 8* offset, its about 40. i dont know if its setup right. Im pretty sure my antec cooler is useless besides raising it on a flat surface. Is there a right way to set it up? The air is sucked from under my notebook and expelled out the sides. I wish it just blew air on the bottom

You should clean out the vents with compressed air. If you get a dust build up in the vents it will cause the laptop to overheat -
by default i believe the antec sucks air down from the laptop. Bad bad for most dells that need to suck up air from teh botttom fan. Gota research your stuff before you start breaking things.

my comp is only a month old, could there already be dust buildup?
and actually the idle temp is usually closer to 50, but i ahve the fans always on low so it stays around 40 -
Nothing is broken 56* is well withing recommended range. With 2 browsers open, I ran Spybot and peaked at 62* Now I'm sitting at 32*

NHC might be the problem.
Use I8kfangui. -
I second the motion to use I8kfangui.Designed for dell laptops.
-
i used i8kfan too, thats what turned the fans on high, on Policy 2
-
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I would only use one of those programs, running multiple programs to control your fans is just asking for trouble -
i dont really use nhc to control fans, just to monitor temps and to use its "dynamic switch" and "max battery" setting when i need thenm

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
still sounds like a bad idea to me, the possibility of conflicts between the programs could cause adverse effects
-
Actually in mine, sometimes the fans turn on when my cpu hits 77C!! but i checked up on this and the cpu's are designed to run at a max temp of 100C
-
so should i stick with nhc, and use the battery and clocking utilities, or use i8kfan to keep my comp cooler? Im leaning towerds nhc cuz i like to keep it underclocked
high heat!
