For some reason my e1505 has been emanating a high pitched whine every so often for long periods at a time. Do you guys have any idea what might be causing this? Is this something I should call up Dell about have it fixed?

funny this is it's doing it on my notebook too. I'm sure it's the same thing. Do you mean like when you're switching internet pages, or doing something from an idle, then you hear this strange EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK emitting somewhere from the keyboard area?

its not loud but it's not faint either. It can be heard clearly when you're in a silent environment.

    is this the same problem?

i wish for a reason as well.

This is probably going to be one of those things that you'll have to deal with. Some electronics tend to do this. My Dell 8600 emits the whine, on occassion. I had a Planar LCD screen that did the same thing. My Motorola v3i does it, too, when it's open and I'm not making a phone call.

I think someone on here posted that is has to do with the 945 chipset and the Core 2 CPUs and certain sleep states (something like this anyway). It appears to be a common problem among the 945 chipset laptops. For the record, I have used an E1505 that does the same thing, I wouldn't worry about it. You will get used to it. Or just turn your fan up all the way and you shouldn't be able to here it at all.
