Now that HP is releasing dv8 w/ i7 processor. I wonder if Dell will release new laptops in the coming months to compete?

Personally I'm waiting for Dell to release a new laptop, preferably with i7 processor in a 15.4/16 inch range.. (wishful thinking on my part, perhaps?)

I'm sure they would, eventually. The only concern for me would be the $$

They're probably planning laptops, it's just that the HP ones got leaked first.

Sure they would. Otherwise, their competitors would leave them in the dust. With the Holiday season approaching, the would wanna bank on sales.

Alienware is crap. this is coming from someone who has taken these systems apart to replace system boards. They are thick, they are heavy, and frankly are no better then the XPS system other then SLI

Alienware M17x is a lot better than the XPS 16 (top model). It supports multiple hard drives, 1920x1200 8-bit LCD panel w/ dual floresenct bulbs, SLI 280M, backlit keyboard, Quad Core CPU.

    -Missing LED display.
-Several 17" systems already support multiple hard drives.
-Quad core CPU's will be out within a month on the XPS 16 with the Intel Core i7
The XPS 16 also has a backlit keyboard.

Again with the right GPU it becomes comparable to the Alienware. And it has better battery life and is at least 3 pounds lighter, not including the power adapter that is at least 1 if not 1.5 lbs. The XPS system is a well designed system. Dell hasn't really done much with Alienware since its purchase other then update features. Again I say this as a Dell tech who sees the designs of these devices all the time. I fully expect to see an updated 17"er that will be comparable to the low end alienware.

I think Precision M6400 is a top model, XPS 16 is shiny and fast premium class, but not top...Precision is top in price also :s

As a previous owner, I must say the LCD SUCKS. I've seen better single lamps.

The Precision IS quite the monster. And you can throw it at someone with impunity. Free fall sensors ftw.
