The DDR2 version that is in the 1720 and 1520 / 1700 and 1500 is not on the motherboard but a separate unit. Looking at the list of affected cards, it is the on-the-motherboard video card.

We don't know which models are affected; we can only harbour suspicions at the moment. Nvidia hasn't yet made any statements as to which models are affected.

It's supposedly all 84xx and 86xx cards, laptop and desktop, PERIOD. Besides, the memory isn't going to affect the GPU core man. They're both the same core.

That information is incorrect. This issue described here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us

Is a result of Nvidia's blunder; my laptop has already been in for repair for a failed Geforce 7200 GPU and cooling problems. Many other people on this forum are also having problems.

I repeat, Nvidia has not made any official statements regarding which models are affected. All that is known is that Dell has reported this issue as well as HP with a new BIOS, and that Nvidia is really screwed.

I have the GeForce GT8600 graphics card on my desktop and a patch was also available from nVidia.
