dell after $600 discout, this final price of this laptop comes to $1,399. it's a pretty good deal, but it's still expensive. the laptop comes with 3GB of ram and i think 3 years of warranty. i was wondering how i could take off 2 GB ram from 3 GB and take off the warranty to reduce the price to possible under 1,000. any help would be appreciated.

you can't, that would be too good of a deal, they wouldn't make nearly as much money.

Many have had luck returning the warranty but only after receiving the laptop. Call customer service. Some have had luck getting the memory down 1 GB as well, but that one can be extremely difficult to accomplish.

I tried to get the warranty down to one year and to remove the online storage.. unsuccessful; rep said it was included in the price. So I said fork it and got the 3 year 'accidental' coverage for those 'unexpected' times. :0)

The warranty is worth it. I have dropped my Dell D820 before. The corner of the laptop case cracked right off.

    Replaced free of charge. :)

I managed to get the same deal and downgrade to 1GB. I called a sales rep after I configured the laptop online. They only credited me with $70 though. It wasn't much but because I already had 4 gb and didnt want to go through the hassle of trying to sell it(I wouldn't hae gotten $70 for 3gb anyway), I went with it. So, it can be done, but because of the discounts and deal you're already getting don't expect to get back what dell would charge for the 3gb.

As far as the warranty, as long as you are being charged on your invoice for it, you can call Dell, cancel and have that amount invoiced refunded. I will do this with Lojack, which I was billed $50 for. They wont refuse, and if they do....ask the rep to send you an email in regards to the denial. MOST credit cards will reimburse you when you are denied a legit return, dispute it with your credit card company, and send them the email stating you were denied.

That's interesting MAC5217. I never keep my notebooks more than a year, sometimes I do get 2 years, because it makes it easier to sell and I usually get my money back, but 3 years, I do not need.
