my tv watching set-up right now is good, but damn expensive.
i have an hd-pvr box.
if i purchase a laptop with a tv tuner does that mean i could cancel everything? my cable...my box...the whole shebang...
from my limited research...it sounds like the tuner...say dell would have inside the laptop...would pick-up signals...so there's no need for any cable subscription then? maybe i wont get all the stations...but just the strong ones...right?
then i could hook up my laptop to my tv. then it would just be as if i replaced my hd-pvr box with my laptop...plus now i dont have the extra charges of renting the box or paying for cable.
am i correct here?
thanks for reading and hope to get some answers.

no, the ATSC component will pick up public broadcast/regular TV channels but for Cable channels you need to connect a cable signal that goes to the DVR to the Tuner on laptop.. (Err. this is in the USA, I dont know how channels are broadcast in Ca)

the laptop will pick up over the air channels, but you will still need to subscribe to cable, and use their tuner box, to get cable channels.

I believe for the Studio line the tuner is not internal to the laptop though

That's correct, the tuner resides in the card slot on the Studio line.
how exactly does the tv tuner work?
