I'm trying to do research on if i should get a dell e6400 laptop or a thinkpad. I kep hearing the dell's trackpoint doesn't even compare to the thinkpads and it is choppy and inaccurate. Can someone describe to me how good it is? I mean like is it real hard to use or what? Is the inaccuracy minimal or is it real noticeable and frustrating?

With the recessed dome they are TERRIBLE! With a classic dome that is identical to a thinkpad trackpoint they are almost as good as the thinkpads trackpoint. I got a set of 4 for ~$12 and it made my precisions useable without an external mouse as well as made me VERY happy. Now my touchpad is turned off (despite being 100x better then my m4400 touchpad) and I use my pointstick pretty often.

I once put the Soft Dome Trackpoint on my E6400, world of difference.

Nope. The caps just pull right off and go back on with ease. Its just like replacing one on a thinkpad.
