Well, I'm not sure about the heat on the Vostro 1500, but looking at a Vostro 1400 on this link:
http://benyouhui.it168.com/thread-561922-1-1.html (scroll down to the pict that shows the bottom of the Vostro 1400)
There seems to be alot of fans, so I don't think overheating would be a problem. Also, I didn't see any posts about heat problems on the Vostro 1500, so I assume it's fine. -
I have a Vostro 1500 and the heat really is negligible. However, I haven't run it under extremely intensive programs yet (I will soon). I've always bought laptop coolers from Vantec and will most likely buy something from them very soon. Everyday use, you can barely notice the heat. I'm sure running games that are GPU/CPU intensive will be a different story. Make sure you prop up the laptop so the fan's air can circulate on the bottom though or else it can get somewhat hot.

Mat Dope:
are there any problems with the screen or interference noises? -
I recently bought a dell vostro 1500 with minimum specs. And its heating up like crazy. I cant put it on my lap for more than 10 mins.
I was considering to underclocking my laptop or any other tweaks by which i can considerably reduce the heating problem. Underclocking would not affect my usage as i use it for very basic office applications.
Please someone shed some light on this. And suggest how to go about underclocking and also mention the pros and cons for it -
When you say minimum specs, do you mean you did not get the dedicated GPU or the 7200 RPM hard drive?

I have a dedicated GPU and a 120 GB 5400 rpm hard drive.......

i have a 1500 (specs in sig) and under regular load its 45 degrees celcius (using Nvidia monitor) and is very cool on my lap. Playing battlefield 2 and CS:S there's hot air blowing out the side, but its not insanely hot. I wouldnt play games on my lap, but on a table Im not scared of overheating. Also, with the warranty if it gets fried Im just sending it back instead of trying a laptop cooler.
how is the heat on the vostro 1500?
