    Hi all,

I got a faulty M1730. Dell made an exchange request. They said they will send out replacement whenever they have the same configuration available. Does anyone experience the same ? How long does it usually take to have a replacement?

The CS said since I bought it from Dell outlet so I have to wait until they have another refurbished one the same as mine.

Another question, when I receive the replacement, if the replacement is worser than the old one, am I allow to keep the old one? I am asking this because my M1730 screen is grainy, but other things are in good shape. I am kind of worried that the replacement may not be in as good shape as the current one. I prefer a a little grainy screen than a beaten up M1730.

You can swap the parts if they are same parts. You have few days to return the old system, and make sure to save the shipping label.

It means if the replacement have a good screen, but having a beaten up chasis, I am allow to swap the whole lid?

I disassembled several Dell laptops in the past, so it won't be a problem to me to do this task. Just wonder I am allow to do it under Dell policy? What if they find out?

    Could you elaborate on that?

I looked through M1730 service manual. Do you mean being careful with cables when remove the keyboard?

The service manual mentions that the keycaps are fragile. Are they really that delicate?
