how much do you guys think the new 9300 will cost? I recieved my dell 9200 and im thinking about returning it if a new computer is coming. Also what is dells return policy? is it 21 days returnable from the date you recieved the computer or ordered? or date shipped from dell? thanks

I'm in the same boat. Just received my 9200 yesterday. I think it is 21 days from the ship date on the packing slip or invoice on your shipping box, which would be 1/6/05 for me. If the 9300 doesn't actually go on sale within my return period, I'll probably just keep the 9200 and be happy. If it does, then yes I will most likely return for a credit.

the 9300 will offer twice the performance of the 9200, so it'd be worth returning if it were affordable, but there's a 15% restocking fee at Dell and you'll be paying a premium for the new 9300.

I don't think returning the 9200 will be very cost effective unfortunately.

with the radeon 9700 on the 9200, vs a geforce 6800 on the 9300, you'd be pretty stupid to not get it since you can have pretty much the same specs as a 9200 for half the price with other brands.

dell has a 21 day from date of invoice. this it the date on your invoice that dell completed building the machine and sent it for shipment. this date can be found on your invoice. dell is very clear on this if you google their policy.

the 9300 is *not* categorically twice as fast as the 9200. the 9300 will see a 5-15% improvement in most benchmarks. depending on your video configuration, you could see up to a 100% improvement if the 9300 does provide the gforce6800go or the x700 or better as options.

the 9300 is going to cost hundreds more initially when it does arrive. the ram is more expensive, and a high end pci express video card will probably cost a premium. dell generally phases discounts in slowly for new products as well.

so, if you are a serious gamer, wait for the 9300. but, if you need a notebook first and gaming second, and 300-400 dollars is a big deal to you, then just get the 9200. there will always be something better for less in the future. in early 2006 intel is promising duel core dothans. in my opinion, that is an upgrade point, because games worth playing in the future are going to need that extra cpu for AI and physics.
