It's not possible. If the bios is bad, the computer will no boot up and therefore not be able to flash the bios. Blind flashing only works for the video bios.

Wow, maybe I was wrong. Apparently in some cases Phoenix Bioses with Phoenix Recovery implemented can be revived from the dead. There is a special mode saved on the locked part of the bios chip to give the computer just enough life to be reflashed. It seems that on Dell laptops this is accessed by holding the "End" key during bootup. Here are some links:

I wish they had this back in the day. I used to have to hot-swap bios chips to recover dead boards! Talk about sweating...

anyway,my gear came back .the method is same as given, only trick to me is that you have to wait for 3-5 mins after release 'END'key.when the fan is spinning, that means the bios file has been processed.

I have the same problem with a Studio 1558. Using the various methods found on the Internet, was able to "unbrick" my laptop and bring it back to working form.

its not working for me.. the thread referred above is for Studio 1557. I have followed the same steps as given. Fan starts spinning when I release the END button after plugging in the power cord, BUT no light blinks and it stays dead.. what I can hear is only the spinning fan.. I left the laptop for almost 30 minutes but all in vain.. are you sure that you were able to make it alive once again.. the INSPIRON 1564 ??

So you recovered it? Do you still have the files? DELL deleted them from the FTP.

    I bricked mine too...
