See if Dell's service manual explains which color is what. You can find the service manual for your model at dell.com, support section.

tried intel and dell's driver (dell driver seems to be newer) but can't bring this card on although intel 3945 works fine. device manger always shows "This device can't start" etc., i guess this card is probably a dead one.

    Hi,

My name is Todd and I'm with Dell's online outreach program. My team is designed to try to help customers via forums, blogs, and other online sites.

I pulled up the online service manual from our support site. If you click on the section entitled Communication Cards and it lists the following for the Vostro 1400.

"Connect the appropriate antenna cables to the WLAN card you are installing:

If the WLAN card has two triangles on the label (white and black), connect the white antenna cable to the connector labeled "main" (white triangle), and connect the black antenna cable to the connector labeled "aux" (black triangle).

If the WLAN card has three triangles on the label (white, black, and gray), connect the white antenna cable to the white triangle, connect the black antenna cable to the black triangle, and connect the gray antenna cable to the gray triangle."

Here is the direct link to the service manual.

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1420/en/SM/index.htm

That may be more helpful for you. We have both User Guides and Service Manuals for a lot of our systems. The Service Manuals tend to have more of the step by step directions for fixing hardware while the User Guides give more of a "how do I... " information, in case you've been looking at the User Guides in the past.

Let me know if that helps, or if you need other information.

    Thank you,

    Todd

    Hi,

I'll see if I can pull one from the lab, where I can get a better look at the cards and connections, to check if I can see the labels.

    Thank you,
