Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced and there should be an option for what happens when you close the lid of your computer.

Dell Quickset should also have an option?

i know that you can set it to do nothing/stand by/hibernate using the methods mentioned but i just want it to off the screen and keep all the programs running.. it used to do it but i don't know why it doesn't do so now..

Like I said before, laptops shut the screen off when you close the lid. Do you actually see it not turn off?

Hmm well it should just turn off.

It could be a registry entry. I don't know off the top of my head what it would be, so you'd have to hit Google. Allot of that kind of stuff is usually controlled in the reg.

If that don't work I'd try updating drivers. And then setting power saving mode to turn off the monitor after about 5 mins.
