[^]well, i went ahead and ordered the i8600 today, and took advantage of the $500 off coupon, eventhough it was not stackable with the 15% off running on the dell home site.

It priced out at 1156.00 before tax, with 1.6 M, sxga screen, 256 ram, 128 ati card, 40 gb hard drive, and the 24x cd-rw. Did I do the right thing or what?

I play very few games, and my current lappy is (gasp) 5 years old now, and the screen is about to give up the gohst, though it has served me well (dell clone, compal N30W-14, PIII 500mz) during this time.

I do run all the apps in the MS Office XP suite, and often times many of them simultaneously, and i really need a dependable desktop replacement for my law office. Although the new models coming soon sound great, I think overall I will be happy saving the money and going with the proven model.
