    Hi

    I have just brought a latitude c640 .
    The problem is i cannot get Xp to install
    I get messages telling "setup cannot coppyfile"
    The list of files is too long to type here

    HELP PLEASE :mad:

    - bad XP CD
    - bad HD

    don't think it's the cd tried it another it installs fine
    As for Hd not sure it installed Win Me ok

    It is more like a CD or CD ROM drive problem. If the file that it cant copy varies from time to time then it is the ROM else it is the CD. Even if the CD works on another PC doesn’t meant the problem isn't the CD, cos some drives are better at reading scratched/damaged disks than others.

    You can try making a new copy of the CD.

    have u done a fdisk and formating before trying? cos from what i know is that windows installation copies some files onto the drive first.

    You need a new CD your CD is corrupt

    Sometimes a bad CD will only not work on 1 system. For instance:

    System 1: CD reader x
    System 2: CD reader y

    While the reader in system 1 will not read a CD with a small scratch, system 2 will. It just happens that it is less finicky. Could just be the brand is more pickey. I would second trying another CD.
