Hey everyone! hopefully someone can help me out.
i purchased my dell on September 28th 2006. i didn't receive it until October 8th. I have been through 3 replacement laptops,(due to problems: hissing sound, computer shuts down after streaming videos) and now they're asking me to send it to the depot to fix. I know im past the 21 day grace period, but 3 replacements? isnt that a little outrageous? do you think i will be able to return it and get a refund with the restocking fee? or do you think im stuck with getting replacement after replacement?
please help! im in canada!

You should be able to get a refund, just talk to dell. They usually don't even charge the fee if you are that pissed off. Just stay cool when talking to the customer service people and they might help you out.

even if my laptop is almost 2 months old?
-
just say; "i spend most of that 2 months waiting while my laptop is on repair!" thats true right?
-
3 replacements in 2 months; that is weird. Were all the replacements brand new? Are you sure you are not doing anything funny (just curious)
?

My laptop was 2+ months old and I had the tech guy come to my house 3 times to swap the light leaking 9400 screen. I eventually just told them enough was enough and they escalated the situation and I got a refund back. If that doesnt work just call up your credit card and explain to them the situation and time it has cost you. That is the other route I went when I returned a previous 9400 I had purchased.
I just got a 6400 myself the light leak is just terrible first one I got had a dead pixel...second light leak...third light leak. But I am just going to keep this last one I got...got a good price and on top of that dell hooked me up with a coupon.
Dell customer service is good..they really try to work with you even though the language barrier can sometimes be annoying...I actually find them to be more courteous then there US counter parts. I think I have been on the phone with tech for over 8 hours all together for all 3 different purchases...
Dells laptops are not top of the line when it comes to quality imo...but they are good on price and customer service for the most part... -
Your warranty should last more than 2 months, usually, the shortest warranty is one year on any of the notebooks. Talk to them and ask, if you can (and most likely you will) all the better, if not... well, I don't think so. You've had 3 replacements so far so your warranty should still be well intact.

Is it covered under warranty ? Cos I too have some light leakage, but never bothered to call DELL since I thought it is inherent problem of my notebook model. -
i really hope that dell allows me to return this system without paying the restocking fee. i am currently away for school and this is really unacceptable. like 3 replacements? in a two month span? cmon now! lol i have to wait until i get home in a few weeks to return it i guess. ive only heard good things about dell, so its kind of a shock. should i buy another dell? overall i like the size although it is a little big. i was thinking going the macbook route. its a lot smaller and i really dont game. although the 13inch screen kinda worries me! i don't really game, except for the odd text twist game online. haha yes i know im a nerd. any input would be great! and who would i go abouts contacting someone for a return
-
the longer you wait, the harder it will be to return it.
why would you wait? -
because i hafta wait until i get home, im currently away at school i go back home in a week and a bit! so i'll get a chance to do it then
-
i guess i have trouble understanding why exactly you have to wait.

I've been using mine for closely over 7 months, any chance to get full refund? I"m pissed off with BSOD on E1705 "memory parity error" . I'm sorry to say that i have to switch to Asus from now. (I've had 3 replacements of E1705 with the same BSOD error, the 1st system i kept using for 4 months, then ask for exchange.)
-
Have you considered there is something specific you've installed causing an error? it seems odd you'd get three machines with the same error.
-
well, after dealing with Dell and i've checked all my softwares. The reason is not because of my software. There must be some error in mother board.. or some hardware. They're sending me another memory to replace, but i'll return it after all. Many other users are experiencing the same problem as i do.
i want to return my 6400
