i was wondering how many ram slots do i have on my dell inspiron 700m?

In da dell config page i chose 2 x 512mb PC 2700 ram sticks.....

wonder if i have one more spare slot...

Would u recommend me upgrading with another 1gb stick to make 2gb memory? or would it just be a waste of $$$??

    Which is faster?

You have two slots. I would recommend buying the minimum memory and buying some more after getting it.

No speed difference between 1 and 2 modules. You don't have dual channel on your model. So just get as much as you need, and in the configuration that would cost the least.

2GB is too much of an overkill. I cannot imagine you doing anything on a 700m that would demand that much RAM.

Yeah, definitley upgrade your RAM aftermarket - it's much cheaper than upgrading it from Dell. You really can't use more than 1 GB of RAM in that notebook. It's not capable of playing games, so the only application that would benefit from 1GB would be Photoshop or maybe something similar.

So, get the minimum (in your case 256MB), and then pick up a 1GB module - two 512MB sticks would be about ~$20 cheaper, but I think it would be better to get the 1 GB stick, because then you have room for expansion later.

Or do what I did wait for the free upgrade offer on the Ram, not only did I get the free upgrade from 512 to 1 gig, I had a free leather case thrown in, and also a free burner upgrade, not to mention using a $300 off coupon.

Unless you need the notebook right away, I waited three months for an offer for which no other offer has come close since. I saved about $1200 overall, best saving since and in the 7 months before I bought was $600 saving.
