    i'd like to turn off monitor on my dell inspiron 600m

    how do i do this? i just got a new large monitor. pls advise. thx.

    as i said, just got a new large monitor, and do't want both running at same time. appreciate any help. i know i can turn it off, just dont know how. thx.

    This is how i turn mine off. Click on Start>Control Panel>Display>Display Properties>Screen Saver>Power
    Hope this helps.

    You can right click your desktop, go to properties, settings tab, advanced, monitors tab (or something similar), and there you can choose the main monitor and turn on/off the available monitors (tv, laptop lcd, external monitor).

    I don't know it Fn+F8 works on that computer...

    Nah, just use Fn+F8 like da 17 said. It works on most all laptops, but definitely all dells. Pressing this function switches between 3 modes when it is hooked up to an external display: 1. only laptop's lcd; 2. both laptop's lcd and external; 3. only external.

    Where can we get the software to do this? FN F1, F3, F8 don't do anything for me.

    Have you reformatted your computer? It's part of the Dell QuickSet utilities which should be preinstalled on your machine. If you've wiped your machine then check the CD's that came with your machine and also dell.com (look for support > downloads) to reinstall the program.

    Or do it the old fashioned way as mentioned, going into the control panel > displays I think you can tweak all of these settings. It's just a little bit more hassle.
