Wow. Dust in the paint. Can't they work indoors?

Dell puts out a fine product and manages to screw it up again.

    Oppsie on Dell's part.

They were probably trying to do the painting in a non-clean room environment, or one that was not clean enough.

Well, the bottom line is that I never really liked the look of Dell's silver and black job. Always like the colors more...too bad.

The heading of that article is extremely misleading.

If you read the article, Dell has not 'scrapped' the different colours, it is merely telling consumers that there will likely be a delay. The only colour scrapped is the Pearl White one.

    Rubbish Journalism.

Errr, this was posted at the Direct2Dell blog 20 days ago. News articles are just recently starting to pick up on the story and rehashing it, obviously with sensationalized titles to grab people's attention.

Very interesting, given that you can still order the colored lids in the configurator at this moment...wonder if they mean they're not going to do it again after this line, or if they're going to give up on it while the xx20/21 lines are still out?

That arcticle is blowing the issue out of proportion, pretty sure Dell might sue them for mispresentation or something if they dig it out.

The article is wrong and misleading, they have not scrapped colors, just delaying and charging more for certain colors. We actually reported on this issue several days ago: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsid=3880

Most of the mainstream media have reported on this now.

They still have a ways to go to catch up to Apple charging $125 extra for the black Macbook... at least Apple colors the whole laptop though.

Well with all that marketing they did about those colors (I saw like three commercials today) they'd better deliver. If they don't catch HP or Mac for style points, it won't matter how good their hardware is.

On the 1420 I had (before returning it) I did think the red micro satin finish was beautiful. That lid was gorgeous. But the rest.. display frame, keyboard etc.. had a very generic/plain look to it. I ordered a HP dv6500t now and other then only coming in white or black.. looks years better in the style department. All dell did was put a colorful lid on their typical ho hum boxy looking notebook. I guess they expect you to go to their XPS line if you want better styling.
