my coworker has an inspiron 1100, had it for quite some time. Today the screen all of a sudden went blank, and now the lcd doesn't work at all. I don't have much experience with laptops and their lcd screens and am hoping someone might know what's wrong. Do connectors and stuff sometimes go bad, or will she have to replace the lcd? Anyone know how to go about checking to see what the problem with the laptop's lcd is?
also, she had bought it used and apparantly doesn't think it's still under warranty
update..
eternal monitor doesn't work either when using fn+f8...
looks like the problem might be bigger than just the lcd
the fan and the cd drive come on when powered up, but i don't hear the HD trying to boot up windows, and if it was just a HD related problem then the bios should still boot up...

might be the disk controller not working, either way it doesn't sound good. i had something similar happen on an inspiron 8200, turned out it was an actual problem with the motherboard...just stopped communicating with the disk drive and when that happens, well, the laptop is as good as a paperweight and it's an expensive fix if not under warranty. i recommend finding a computer repairshop in town and getting a quote/estimate to see if they can diagnose what's wrong or calling dell and telling them the motherboard has stopped reading from the disk drive and how much would it cost to send for a repair and to be looked at. it'll be $$$ I know[V]
i1100 no video problem
