i just got my i6000d today. first thing i did was delete those pesky image partitions (yes, there were TWO of them) and make one big one partition for my fresh install of XP Pro. unfortunately, whoever packed my machine made a mistake and gave me 2 CD copies of the DVD viewing application instead of 1 DVD app CD and 1 driver replacement CD. because of this i had to do a workaround and download the driver files from dell's support site.

although i was able to reinstall everything to perfection, i still hae one last piece of info missing and i'm hoping someone here can help. i can't figure out which display driver i need. note that i am NOT talking about the video card driver (i already have the driver and ati app for the x300 installed). what i'm looking for is the "display driver" for my 15.4" WUXGA screen. there are 4 options and i'm not sure which one i need for my display.

    can anybody help?

    the options are...

    1. Dell 1505FP
    2. Dell 2005FPW
    3. Dell 2405FPW
    4. Dell E773c

    help, anyone? thanx

I assume you are looking at Dell's website under the drivers section. Those are all standalone monitors/LCDs, so unless you are connecting an external monitor listed there to the laptop, you do not need those drivers.

NOTE: I6000 comes with spyware pre-inst; e.g. My Search Assistant(with remove disabled), etc.... == Erase the place

I'm doing the re-Install right now, but 1st I made a burn of
    c:dell
    c:drivers
and a screen shot of device properties, they always have stuff you might need. For "Monitors" I didn't take a pic of the exact wording because I beleive I didn't see anything from default monitor in the "Monitors" section.

For the CD's I also didn't get a driver CD; instead I got two disk, exactly the same, for installing Cyberlink DVD, wtf I'll call dell later.

Post back any other probs and especialy solns you have.

well, these drivers are on their support site under the i6000 driver section listing, so i assume these are for the i6000. they are not in a general area... here's the link...

    thanx,

i'm aware of what components my system has. like i said, i have reinstalled everything just fine except for the display drivers.

i just want to replace the generic microsoft driver for the display with the correct driver. it's working just fine with the generic driver, but for whatever's sake, i just want to install the correct display driver.

am i to understand you correctly in saying that those display drivers listed on that link are incorrect? all the other drivers correspond to components avialable on the i6000 and i have already successfully installed the corresponding drivers, but the display drivers are an anomoly?

Drumfu: It is correct that those are for standalone monitors, to confirm just Google the numbers.

Dell does put xtra info even on it's specific driver pages. DONT just click and install every link on the download page. For example: Dell give the software for both it's version of Wireless cards and Intel's; that dosen't mean dl and install both.

My system is now a fully functioning and clean. I do recomend dl'ing Dells
"Network Drivers -> Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Module"
NOTE: There is already an ATI UPDATE on Dell for a random sys crash due to video driver; I found this out by...getting a crash, and MS refering me to Dells driver page. Look at the driver ver.

Im rather computer adept but am a total NEWB when it comes to reinstalling/reformatting - Ill be getting my I6000d sometime next week and most people reccomend just starting all over.

So, hey why not.. I just dont really understand how to go about doing it... People say oh just burn the drivers to a disk... Well then what after I reinstall XP, will it ASK me for the drivers?

And, how do I get rid of the partitions?

    Thanks for the help.

I am having that same problem with display drivers. The default microsoft driver are showing up under monitors in device manager. The drivers listed on the dell page are wrong. they are all for external monitors according to a google search. Has anybody found the right drivers yet? I called dell and they do not send out application or driver CDs anymore with systems. (that is phuking stupid) You have to request them now, so I will have them in a few weeks.

If you have a dell install XP, can you go to device manager then monitors. Click on properties and go to drivers and tell us what you see.

    I have the wsxga+.

    Thanks.

    UPDATE:

According to Dell, you do not need to load any addition display drivers.

Has anyone noticed that after they reformat and install everything fresh the text size is overall smaller, on the same settings than it used to be through the Dell Quickset?

I did notice that everything is smaller. That is why I thought I was missing a display driver.

The ethernet driver is the first one under network drivers on the download page. It is the only one on that list that is not wireless.

I am starting to really love the i6000d and especially the keyboard. It is the best laptop keyboard I have used.

That did it, though I thought I had the DPI setting up before and the sharpness was reduced, I guess not.

Now, is that Dell Notebook System Software on the drivers page necessary? I just installed it but am wondering if I really need it? Thanks!
