Hi, I reformatted my new i6000 without a problem, everything is working fine except when I start up, before windows boots up it gives me a choice of loading windows xp or windows xp. I take this to mean that I have 2 copies to potentially load, but I don't know how this can be as I think I deleted all partitions and did a full format before re-installation, any thoughts?

it's not two copies of the OS... it's merely your boot.ini file that needs to be modified.

right click my computer > advanced > 'startup and recovery' settings > edit > remove one of the lines that starts with 'multi'

When I right click on my computer I don't see an advanced option, where exactly is it located?
Does anyone know the original post that discussed this problem?

when reinstalling win xp I deleted all the partitions and created a single partition. Was this wrong? should I not have deletd the 2 small partitions, I just figured that it was crap dell had hidden on the drive. The computer is running just fine, except for the startup problem.

    thanks,

    Sean

no, you are okay. right click on my computer-->properties-->then you should see an advance tab and follow drumfu instructions. Whenever you reformatted, it wrote an extra line your boot file, but its an easy fix.

my bad, i actually have 'my computer > properties' as a clickable link, so i don't rightclick on 'my computer', i just single click and it goes right to the properties window.

    sorry for the confusion
