I obviously have an e1505 and I just bought my daughter a 6400... when I was configuring it I noticed that the 6400 is not offered in the WXGA+ screen configuration... the closest it gets is the WXGA... This seems a bit odd if they are both running the ATi X1400 video card, shouldn't they both be capable of the same resolutions? Mine displays 1440 X 900, but from the looks of it the 6400 maxes out at 1280 X 800. So, if the video cards are the same, what's different?

That would also answer why a comparably equipped 6400 was cheaper than the 1505...

they are basically the same computer. i guess currently the differences are whats offered as "updates" to them. so choice one that has what you want in your pc.

E1505 for the US market and Inspiron 6400 for the canadian market are the same computers. (Though Dell recently launched the E1501 wich is a I6400/E1505 equiped with a AMD processor and lower end performance options). The differences are in the options choice you made when you bought them. The Inspiron 6400 can be equiped with 3 different screens: XGA, WXGA+ or SXGA+ (all prior to availability change depending on particular weeks). My I6400 is equiped with the SXGA+ screen with the X1400 card and has a native resolution of 1680x1050.
