My Inspiron 15R came with 3210M but there're other versions of the 15R that use 3612QM at the moment. Now the new 3632QM has the same TDP so I might be tempted to get one off eBay for some £170 if it would actually work.

Do you think a 15R that currently uses 3210M would work with 3632QM?

Yes it should work since it uses the same socket. The i7-3612QM has the same TDP as the i5-3210M as well.

    Good luck..

Thanks for the info. I'm well aware of the fact that chipset/TDP are the same but does that automatically mean the CPU would be compatible? Does the BIOS have to be made to be compatible or the BIOS doesn't really care?

I don't think you need a custom BIOS or anything because the Inspiron N5520 can be configured with the i7-3612QM so you just need to pull out the old CPU , put the new one in, apply the paste and you're done. All the N5520's uses the same BIOS.

You are aware that I was asking about the 3632QM not 3612QM? Just checking since it sounded a bit off :p

3632QM is currently cheaper than 3612QM so it's kind of a no-brainer IF it works..

Oh, I thought you were asking about the 3612QM.
Now I don't know if it will work, but I can assure you that the 3612QM will work.
