I'm looking for a computer to take to college and have been seriously considering the i700m. I do, however, have some concerns about screen size. I really like widescreen, but I'm wondering how others feel about the size and/or x-brite style gloss. I'm afraid the size may be too small and the gloss too distracting. What do you use your 700m and how does it work with the screen? How is multitasking? Can it be used outside with the gloss?

    Thanks for your input!

I would look at the either the Fujitsu s6231 and/or the Asus W3v both of which will offer you better build quality than Dell. The Fujitsu is lighter, has 13.3" screen, not widescreen though, and has better battery life than the dell. I personally found the keyboard on the 700m too small and it had some flex, the screen size seemed fine to me. Glossy screens are a personal preference. If you can look at some with and without it, I'd recommend it. More memory will help you ability to multitask. Good Luck.

    Sorry, forgot to add this.

According to some people, the gloss makes it 100% readable in sunlight (much more so than matte-finish screens)

The Inspiron 700m is supposed to have one of the nicest screens on the market. I've read that the glare thing isn't so striking - I have yet to see since I am still waiting for mine! If you look at the reviews, you can see pics of it ; the screen is georgious; a real sight to behold. As for the size, it's different than a 12" lcd because it's widescreen. You won't want to type your next novel on that screen, but you can do work on it; also, the widescreen considerably cuts down the dimensions from other models. I've seen the screen; it's a nice size - not as your main computer, but as a laptop, it's fine.
