My E1505 appears to have 3 fan speeds; slow, medium, and fast. However, i8kfangui seems to only be able to set the fan to either slow or fast. Am I missing something, is there a way to get the program to run the fan on the medium speed or only slow/fast?
Also, I have heard that you have to type in an offset for the temperatures to read correctly, is that right? Right now I haven't set an offset and my computer idles between ~32-42 C, sometimes reaches the lower 50s when I'm multitasking (playing music, browsing internet, downloading stuff), and can sometimes reach ~60 C if I'm playing a demanding game. This is when in observer mode (only BIOS controlling fan) and my room is usually pretty warm.

Mine doesn't even have a medium option. But yours is a different model. To offset your GPU temp, with the Fan window open, go to options, and click the advanced tab. There is a category called "Temperature Compensation" and set your gpu to 8. I just run mine on slow for web and light tasks, and high for games. My proc never goes over 50C, and my GPU never goes over 70C

i8kfangui was written for the inspiron 8000 series, hence the name.
deter (i think that's his name) has updated it as new models have been released by dell, but it doesn't mean he has time or resources to keep up on everything.
be happy it's free.
if you're running quickset, you can set fangui to "high", then hit Fn+Z and it should step your fan down to medium.. -
Ok, should that be a "8" or a "-8" for the offset? I have heard people say both. Also, why does the program need to be offset 8 degrees?
Sorry for so many questions, thanks for the replies so far. -
I forget which setting it is, but in the options menu of i8k for my e1705, I can set the fan speeds to any one of 63 different speeds, but I believe it still limits me to off, low, and high... I can just control the top end. You may want to poke around in the settings... Are you using the newest version of i8k?
-
Yes, beta 5 I believe. Did you enable hardware sensor support or something to get all that room to adjust the fan speed?
Also, does anyone enable anything besides CPU temp. control? (GPU, chipset, mem. for example) -
I just use the CPU temp control, but I have it set so both fans go on low at a really low temperature so the fans keep going. If they stop, then the GPU heats up like a stove. Yeah, to get the 63 settings you need to enable hardware sensor support.

Ok. So do I type in a "+8" or a "-8" for the offset? I have heard people say both. Why does the program need to be offset 8 degrees?

....bump...

up........

The +8 was for the Nvidia chips. I have no idea if this is needed for your ATI GPU, sorry. Try ATI Tool.
