Hi, I know there are lots of threads around on this, but I can't find a clear answer to this question regarding the UXGA+ panel:

Is the Samsung panel any better or worse than the LG panel for "sparkles"?

Also, does anyone have experience of changing the panel through Dell UK?

I've had my i9300 for a couple of weeks now, have the LG panel, and it seemed fine at first. I've just started to use it for extended periods (working from home) and I'm getting bad headaches, and the "sparkle" effect (normally pretty subtle / unnoticable) gets much worse the longer I use it.

I've tried all sorts of text size, colour & brightness settings and I can't find anything that works better and doesn't give me headaches and bad eyes.

This is a shame, as I got a cracking deal on Dell UK Outlet and I really like everything else about it, but it's no use having a laptop I can't use for any length of time.

Any help / advice appreciatead, particularly with regard to Dell UK.

I found the screens very similar. The light bleed on the LG panel was much worse, I finally had a new laptop delivered after the installer trashed the surround swapping out the screen. I have come to accept the crap screen as a tradeoff for the blinding performace for the money. I have other laptops for general use. Nothing beats this as a performace platform for Digital audio performance recording remote, running reaktor etc. Shame the screen is crap, soundcard is garbage also.

    Cheers Alocaster, comments are appreciated.

I don't have light bleed, and lighting is surprisingly even, it's the reflective coating - I had a Sony S2XP for a while and the reflective screen there was fine, must be something in this one. It's fine for games, looks amazing in fact, probably because of the varied & mostly darker backgrounds, but using it for work & even browsing the backgrounds are mostly uniform & bright (white). I've tried changing the background colour to greys and blues that are less harsh, and I've turned brghtness & contrast down, but I still get headaches.

Other trouble is, I'm passed the 7 day return period, although I suppose I saved a packet buying on outlet, I may end up having to buy a 20" external monitor, but the point of getting this laptop was do do without the normal cables and connections, and at that point I might as well flog it and buy a SFF PC and get 5x the hard disk space and RAID too. Decisions...

On an aside, I agree with comments about the sound quality, my guitar port sounds better on my 4.5yr old Sony portable, an Audigy card is on the shopping list if I keep the laptop.
