by the way.. the overall price for this thing (with an estimated $200 in RAM) is around 1300$-1400$.... curious about laptop pricing right now.. was this a good/mediocre/bad deal?

It's hard to know if that was a good price without knowing the specs. As for the RAM, I've honestly never heard of that brand before and would probably go with something more mainstream, like Crucial, Kingston or Kingmax. The price is very good though, that might be more important to you. You can use Crucial as a comparison.

To add RAM, you'll remove a panel on the bottom of the machine. I will say that 2GB is overkill though, unless you know you need it for whatever reason.

I agree that 2 gb is over kill. I have 2 gb of ram on my desktop and I don't really notice much or any difference from my other desktops with 1 gb of ram.

One thing you will(may) notice is the total lack of page faults as well as the speed of reloading things once they have been loaded. For instance you could probably load 2 good size programs and they will stay cached so the second and subsequent times will be much faster. You might see this for instance if you read mail and run word and things like that over and over again.
