I just opened up my brand new inspiron 9300, great stats.2,0 M,1 gig ram, 6800 go. The only problem is I cant install games. WTF!!! this is just ludicrous, its brand spankin new. I get error messages during the installation of battlefield 2 and SW battlefront 2. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem or if there are any known problems with the dell inspiron 9300 and gaming. PLease reply soon.![]()

It could be several things. Might be caused by junkware or bad drive if you have the sony drive.
What is the error message saying? -
for battlefield 2 it simply says battlefield 2 installation failed, try again from the beginning, and its just a cycle it never works. Star wars says some weird stuff about redundancy error data.2.cab. This is just mind boggling that this is an absolutely brand new computer and it is not working. WTF IS GOING ON!!! this should not be happening.

Sanca,
I had the same problem, but with WoW...you have to uninstall the burning program...I don't remember what it was called....it is like Sonic or something. Once I did that, all went well.
Try that and see if it works. -
Do you think that will work for bf2 and the star wars game. Also, there are like 7 sonic programs, which ones do you recommend I uninstall? What wont I be able to do once these programs are uninstalled? Frankly, im extremely disappointed. This is a brand new computer from dell and it should be running flawlessly out of the box. This is just ridiculous.Do all 9300's have the same problem?
-
Usually most complaints are because of the junkware. You'll be surprise how much junkware is on there. IMO, i would just do a clean install as soon as you get it.
If you want to uninstall Sonic, you can always call dell and request the Sonic disk so you can reinstall. -
should i just look at the thread for clean install of xp? what is junkware exactly?
-
AOL, Quickbooks trialware, Google stuff.
It is basically free or trial software that has a contract with Dell. Dell puts it on the laptops. I guess you could think of it as advertising.
Problem is that when you get your laptop, generally all of this software is set to turn on and run. So it is taking up a ton of resources from your CPU and RAM.
If you aren't familiar with reformatting, then the guide has some tips and suggestions. I also wrote it so that it is a step by step in case if you aren't sure.
If you have reformatted before, then it is the exact same process -- might want to read about the drivers and software though. -
The only thing is now, I have to wait prolly a week for the Xp media center cd and the drivers disk because they didnt give them out anymore. And once I get these cd's im unsure where to install the drivers. Is there someway I can get rid of all the junkware without doing a clean install of media center? Thanks

im surprised you havent tried windows update. Maybe the computer doesn't come with the updated installer for windows.
Otherwise, I already know what is your problem. A redundancy error during installation is a bad read from the media. I usually get those when the cd is scratched up, but in this case, your cd drive may be bad? I'd download alcohol 120 and try to image those files onto your hard drive as a file, then mount it with daemon tools 4. Or even easier, try dragging those files over (i think that should be a good test to see if the drive works, BF2 has weak cd checks)
I'll keep updated on this thread to help you out -
Wo, can you go over that one more time with more detail, with the whole alcohol 120 thing. What do u mean image those files and mount daemon and all that stuff. Its weird cause these cds have worked on other computers.
Or even easier, try dragging those files over (i think that should be a good test to see if the drive works, BF2 has weak cd checks)--whats that mean and how do i do that?
thanks for ur help -
try draggin the files over right now to a folder, tell me wat happens
-
yea it says cylic redundancy check when i try to transfer the data2.cab
this is for disk 1 bf 2 by the way -
bro, copy the files over. go to my computer, cd drive and copy it to a folder on your hard disk, that's wat i mean right now
-
I copied every bf 2 disk except for one file on the first disk. data2.cab. it says cylic redundancy check error or something
-
This error message means the drive is having a problem with the disk. The data on the disk is being checked by the drive and the check is failing. Try cleaning the disk with windex or something like that and see if there is any difference.
-
Ok, the Battlefield 2 problem is fixed, i just borrowed one of my friends installer discs. Thanks for ur help. The only other game left is star wars battlefront 2, which i cant install in the first place. Its an a strange error. Any thoughts?
-
Are you having any problems installing any other software? I'm only asking cause we've had several complaints about the Sony Drive. If you have that drive, you might consider calling dell and asking for a replacement.
-
I went through device manager, I have an NEC drive. I havent really tried any other software yet. I got bf2 to work, but im just going to lose all of it once i do a clean install.
-
The NEC drive is hypersensitive to this kind of stuff.
I thought it was xp at first, so I formatted and did a clean install. Riddick still wouldnt load so I found out it was the dvd drive.
I took the cd, put it into my main pc, copied the files to a folder, burned the folder, and used the burned disk to install the game that way.
i9300,brand new, cant install games!!?!?!?!?
