Hi guys:
After the system enters suspend mode or "Display off" & "Hard drive off" after inactivity, how do you get it to turn back on? I tried pressing the power button, but that didn't work, I also tried pressing the the touchpad, but that didn't work either.
EDIT: Is there some driver that I need for this issue? Thanks!

You should just be able to able to hit the power button to get it out of suspension if the hdd is turned off. If it is only the screen, then hitting a key or touchpad would bring it back.
There really isn't a driver for it, since this is an XP issue. Have you updated XP lately? -
All updates installed... still same thing... also, will replacing the system fans stop the "buzz" from the system every 5 seconds? Thanks
-
hmm, that's weird. Have you done a clean install?
As for the system fans, no replacing the fans won't stop it. You can use software to control the fans or flash to the lastest BIOS (think the 9300 is at A9 now) and it will make it where the fans don't turn on as much. In fact, mine hardly come on at all but I have a less powerful system than yours. -
Yep, reformatted and removed the Dell partition. (If that's what you mean by clean install). I'm using Quickset and that has the setting where you can chose when stuff turns off based on being plugged in or not plugged in. I can set it to never turn off anything, but when it's on battery mode I obviously would like to use it to conserve power. Now the problem is just getting stuff back on after it turns off.
-
can you tell me exactly what your Quickset setting is set to? You don't have to label each, I just need the time settings on it.
-
Now because I didn't want it turning off on when it was plugged in I have all those on NEVER. For battery, it is the following:
After 2 minutes
After 3 minutes
After 2 minutes
Level 3
Enabled
Thanks -
k, nothing seems wrong with your settings. What is your "Timeout to hibernation" set at? Also do you have any usb devices plugged in?
I'm kind of mind boggled on this. It should turn on when you press the power button depending on what state it is in. If it is hibernation which seems to be the indication, power button is the only thing that would turn it back on.
If it is in standby mode (left light on right hinge would be flashing), then your play button would wake it up. I just figure that out while experimenting. -
Tapping a key brings it back when it enters the black screen with the Windows logo moving around. For some reason nothing "wakes it up" when the whole screen is powered off, and I guess the hard drive too.
-
hmm, I don't know what else to do.
I set my settings to yours, and it went into standby mode with the screen and hdd turned off. I was able to hit the play button and it came back on. Do you have quickset turned on or off? -
Quickset is on

Would this be something worth calling Dell's tech support for? They might not even know what's up.

The will tell you to restore the system...that is one of the first things they tell you to do...believe me, when I was helping other people with tech support that is what they told me. Which it probably won't solve the problem because there are alot of people with that issue.
Worth a try...you might get a good tech support person. -
LOL I deleted their crap partition. My system came with the MCE reinstall CD though.
Had another question though: I'm pretty sure my system came with a 90W power supply. This is the line under the "Parts Description": C8023 ASSEMBLY, ADAPTER, ALTERNATING CURRENT, 90W, LEAD FREE, DELTA - AC ADAPT ...My system came with 512mb of RAM (didn't want to overpay with Dell). I'm getting 2 gigs... does that require a new power supply. I heard something about a 120W power supply. Is that only for video card upgrades? I got a 1 gig stick of Transcend, planning on getting another one soon. Will my system handle it? Thanks! -
About the system not turning back on... it was doing the same thing right out of the box before I reformatted. As long as I'm at that page, let me ask you guys another few questions
: Did I get the good version of the components (by brand I mean): WXGA+ Samsung, 100gig S-ATA 5.4k Fujitsu, DVD+-RW by Nec....
Thanks again everyone! -
The only other thing I know to do is to repair XP. its easy to do, and will take about an hour, but won't delete any of your files.
I think your system is pretty good. It might have been better to go with 7200rpm drive, but the 5.4 is still pretty good. -
SG, did you read my post before that about the RAM. I don't need to upgrade the Power Supply for that right?
-
oops, sorry. No you don't need to upgrade it for ram or anything else. You only need to if you upgrade to the 7800 card. You didn't mention your battery, but considering you have the 6800 card, you might want to get a 9cell if you don't have one already.

Got the 9-cell
... I would have gotten the 7200rpm HD but I couldn't pass up the deal I found on eBay (3 year premo warranty, 9-cell battery, cheap printer (but I needed a new one so it's all good), memory key, plus everything in my sig)...1425 +shipping
-
Sounds like a great deal. Besides you can always buy a 7.2k drive and install it yourself if you really wanted it.
i9300...How do you get the screen back on?
