Well I've finally figured out why my computer freezes for 30 seconds at a time. I looked at the Event Viewer and this is what I've discovered...

    Source: iaStor
    Event ID: 9
    Level: Error

The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.

Does anyone else have this problem with their Studio 1745? Is this common with all of these running the Intel Gm45 chipset? I really need to find a fix or I'm gonna have to sell this and try another brand.

It's been a problem since the first day I booted the laptop. I actually got a replacement laptop sent to me because of it, but didn't want to keep it because they sent a Studio XPS 16.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have already installed the most recent Intel Matrix Storage Drivers and it has made no difference whatsoever. I'm about to throw this laptop out the window.

I reloaded my laptop with a fresh load last night and here's how many times and how often it has locked up. It's pretty damn annoying, especially for a brand new laptop to act this way.

IMSM drivers or application? There are two different downloads.

Is this a custom load OS or is it the Dell image?

Custom load of Windows 7, no bloatware and I get all of my drivers from the device manufacturers.

That link above has an installation package that installs the Intel drives and software automatically. I've looked at the device and it has the most up to date driver number... 8.9.0.1023

    What HD/SSD are you using?
Did you try another HD/SSD to see if the problem persists?

I have a Seagate 500gb 7200rpm HD. I ended up pulling the one from the Studio 1640 they sent me with hopes that it was the hard drive and I'm still plagued with the same problem. I'm pissed that Dell didn't just send me another 1745 in replacement of this one to begin with.

Hi stevedensmore - Did you ever get to the bottom of this iaStor issue? I seem to be experiencing the same thing on a brand new Dell Inspiron N5010 core i5.

    Thanks!

I also have the same issue, 30-60 second lockups. I've had Dell replace the Mobo, RAM, and HDD--still have the same issue. Let me know if anyone finds a solution

Hi Gary, the following thread may be of use to you. I had the same problem on my gf's laptop and it was ultimatly resolved when a Dell engineer replaced the toshiba hd with a seagate and
-formatted the new hd as one big partition instead of the factory default of three partitions
-installed windows 7 from the recovery cd that came with the laptop but did NOT install any of the dell bloatware.
Another user reported that changing anti-virus from mcaffee to kaperski worked for them.
