I just got my new m1330, but I have noticed that it does not play games as well as I hoped. I know I do not expect much from the 8400GS card but I am having some really problems playing games such as Crysis, Fifa 08 and others. Crysis cant even be played unless I set the resolution to 800x600 or lower.
I would appreciate some help on what; graphics drivers I should use, what bios I should use, any programs that might help increase performance and any stuff or settings I can change/disable in Vista to help increase gaming performance.
Would really appreciate those who are able to run games like Crysis at decent resolutions to share what drivers and settings you use.
Thanks in advance.
PS: How on earth did this guy get great performance on Crysis?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvczXFYiVPk

Crysis is a very demanding game, you should be glad to play it even at 800x600.
In the meantime you can try installing Laptopvideo2go.com drivers; I also recommend a clean windows reinstallation to get the maximum gaming performance out of your system
Try lowering detail and other graphics options. -
Well according to that guy himself (read the comments in the vid) he has the 169.01 NVIDIA BETA drivers from laptopvideo2go.com (with modified .inf file) and has all the settings set to low/medium!
-
My I got 3dmarks 06: 1998 thats almost like my m1210. Is there anything that could be lowering performance?
-
To be honest, what you expect? 8400M GS is still a 64-bit graphic card, same as 7400 Go. Unless you got a GT version, which is 128-bit, just give it up.
-
you say you dont want intense gaming and then say games like crysis dont run so good... well name a game thats more gpu intensive? You can expect to run it on the 8400 gs... if you want gaming you need to do research before you buy... i got the 8600m gt and im very happy with the performance. I can game crysis on medium details, except shadows and shaders on low on 1280x800 res and 25 FPs.
you should consider upgrading your vid card. if thats not an option then: run the game in dx9, Try new drivers, overclock the 8400gs, see what you can squeeze out of it... but in the end ull probably only be able to pull off some low/ some medium settings. -
Sorry It should have read 3dmarks 05 not 06. All i want is to figure out why the damn computer is running slow, games and applications. I remember getting around 1900 for my m1210 in 3dmarks 05 would the difference between 7400->8400 be only about 90 marks?
-
You should be getting about 34-3500 3dmark05.
close to 4k if OC'ed a little. -
...
Personally I don't give a damn about 3dmark points. As I said, as long as it is a 64-bit video card, you can't expect anything amazing from the games like crysis. Playable is good enough already, imo.
P.S. I played CoD4 in 800x600 medium setting and I am happy that I can play the game... -
Exactly. This isn't a gaming system, but I got it so I can play some games on the road at low/med settings.
Consider getting a bigger laptop for a solid performance though.
Oh I posted 3dmark05 score just to show it ain't bad at all for a slim system. -
What driver version are you using, and have you disabled anything in vista to get 3dmarks 05 that high? Is there anything else you did differently that may be able to help me?

do you guys suppose Dell will ever release (or nvidia will produce) cards better than the 8400gs for smaller laptop's within this year? (07)
-
i play unreal 3 on my 1330 at highest resolution and texture at 2 and world at 2 and get 25fps , plays so smooth

When you make that settings. is it 2 out of 5?
BTW, how fast is your processor? -
I am not a gamer are you sure though that you are not running your computer in balanced mode and not performance mode like this forum member did ? If you have it on Dell's settings that it would have been on straight out of the box then your computer would be on balanced mode. Also i think that is pretty good that you are able to run Crysis at all.
Check this thread for more info on drivers.
