    hey guys,

my reason for getting the wxga screen in the first place was becouse of the wxga lower resolution (my eyes cant handle really high resolution). but i read somewhere recently that the wuxga can do the 1440x900 resolution and any other widescreen resolution and look fine, only the non-widescreen resolutions dont look so good. so basically i want to know is this true. if so i will make another order and return the original order. i might just do it anyway becouse its actually cheaper and i get more stuff. the resolution thing is the big kicker though.

my budget is $1600 (thats why i got the upgraded processor)

i ordered a 9300 last week (in boxing faze for 2 days now) with the following for a grand total of $1581

    p-m 760 2.0ghz
    17" wxga
    geforce go 6800
    256 ddr2 ram
    100gb hard drive
    6 cell bat
    1 year warranty
    Intel PRO/Wireless 2200
win xp home and no programs

i can now get the same exact system upgraded with:

    17" wuxga screen
    Intel PRO/Wireless 2900
    and a free 720 printer

all for a grand total of $1559

This is not completely true. LCDs can handle nearly any resolution, but anything other than native will look hazy or blurry.

I second what Brian said. It will look good (as long as its the same aspect ratio)...but not AS good. I would want optimal quality at all times.

What alot of people dont know though...is that you can up your dpi in WindowsXP and it makes a huuuuge difference on the eyes....and does not sacrifice screen real estate in programs like Photoshop.

By default, my wuxga screen (1920x1200) had "Large Fonts" selected in the Display Properties/Appearance tab. Thats great...but it only affects certain type within windows and does nothing for other text.
The solution is to go the "Settings" tab...then choose "Advanced". In the "General" tab, you will find DPI settings. Change that puppy to a custom resolution of 150% (which comes to 144dpi, exactly double the 72dpi of a standard monitor). BAM! All your fonts are super crisp, large and very readable. Yet...all the benefits of the higher res screen are there.

    thanks,

i know you guys are tired of these wuxga/wxga posts but i really appreciate it. :D

all this sparkle/matte/shiney/reflection/resolution-talk has got me paranoid. Ill be looking for all kind of defects and not enjoying what i paid for.

i decided to order the other inspiron and compare both of them. same specs with different screens and make the final decision.

its funny how the wuxga one came out cheaper, i even added the cherrywood quicksnap for a grand total of $1585 (and thats only because of shipping). ill let you guys know how it turns out.

I got paranoid too when I first started looking at dell. Now, I wished i would have went with the wuxga. The wxga seems a little bit off color to me.
