    I'm ordering a M1330 w/2 g's memory. has anyone upgraded theirs
    to 3 g's? any surprises?

reason i'm asking, i tried to increase memory on my desktop XPS 210 from 1 to 3 g's, which s/b pretty straightforward. Until, I discovered Dell had spread 4 sticks of memory @ 256 each into each slot. So now I have
to waste several of these sticks (256) in order to put 3 single sticks back in (or some combination thereof). Not a cost efficient arrangement.

anyway, if anyone has experience increasing memory on the M1330 I'd
be grateful to hear from you. I'm not ordering my M1330 w/
3 g's of memory cause its cheaper to buy/install myself. (that is, if there
are no surprises like my desktop experience. )

    any input welcome and appreciated.

Dell always sells memory in pairs. If you order your laptop with 2gigs, you'll get 2 x 1gb sticks. If you order it with 1gig, you'll get 2 x 512mb sticks.

good luck with that...cos as previously said, you will get two 1GB sticks, and there's only 2 slots...so to upgrade to 3GB you'll need to buy a 2GB stick, and replace one of the 1GB sticks with the 2GB stick!

Might as well just buy 1GB with the M1330, then simply add a 2GB stick yourself!

Only two slots. I plugged in 4GB into my just received M1330 -brand Hiperion (bought for $119)... Vista recognized ~3.5GB... no issues.

But ensure that they put ONE stick of ram in for 1gb instead of 2 x 512mb.

you will have 2 x 1gb sticks installed. to make it 3gbs, you have to remove 1 1gb stick, and replace it with 1 x 2gb stick.

Couldn't you just add a 2gb DIMM along with the 512 mb Dimm if you order a 1gb configuration?
