Hey everyone - I'm a Canadian about to order a 1420, and I'm looking for any tips on lowering the price at dell.ca (which seems to be generally a bit more pricey than the matching systems at dell.com). Thanks to the posters here I already know about the EPP, which is great. But of course I'd like to get an even better deal out of Dell. So does anyone know:
1) Are there any good coupons or codes floating around right now for Canadians?
2) I noticed that several posters recommend talking to a live dell rep rather than order online. Does it make a difference whether you do this by phone or should I try and visit a kiosk?
3) Is it useful to point out to the Dell folks the big price discrepancies between the dell.com and dell.ca sites to get the price lowered (like the fact a second battery is $22 in the states and $90 at dell.ca)?
4) Are there other successful tactics to negotiate the price down?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated![]()

1) most coupons are really open to the US only...
but if you call in with a luckyrep you might be able to use or maybe even stac kit with current promos.
2) phone or kiosk will do.. some kiosk reps are not very friendly at all.. on the phone it's a hit or miss
3) never tried that, but i doubt they will do anythgin about it.
4) bargain with them over the phone =D thats what i did =) -
call and talk with a rep at dell you should be able to do better instead of buying online, I got a better price by doing this

3) Ive tried it and all they say is "Oh I didnt know" and nothing else. Canadian CSR's have little knowledge of whats actually going on Ive found and just take orders. Ive tried numerous times to get them to give me a free bag, quicker shipping, discounts, etc. but they pleed ignorance and say they cant do anything about it. In my opinion, no point in trying because I havent heard of any Canadian customers having much success.
4) I dont know if its just me, but Dell Canada made no attempt to lower my price even after arguing for like 15 minutes... Has anyone had success with Dell canada yet? Please tell me your secret if you did. -
I have had little sucess.. usually with enough bargaining.. saying its too much and not within my budget.. they usually speak with a manager and knock off 100-200 dollars off.. My most successful attempt was getting a rep to stack a 300 coupon with the 240 promo and he offered me a 3 year complete care for the price of a 2 year complete care program.. But it was still too much for me.. I mean talk to them and see what you can do.. Like I said, its like a hit and miss kinda thing with dell.

just ask your rep "is that your final offer?", or is that the best you can do?, or say i'm ready to rder right now, if you throw in XXXX or lower the price etc., if your unlucky with a rep, call back, and get another one. theres alot they can do it just depends on who you talk to. be nice, and polite. I got 100$ off, 3 year warranty and a free bag just for asking and calling back the same rep 3 times. it works trust me!

If anyone is looking to put together a M1330 pm me pls...

thanks for the tips everyone ... am off to chat to at least one dell rep on the phone....

I'm thinking about ordering either the Ispiron 1420 (they're a lot cheaper than they were last week) but there are no specials for the XPS M1330 this week. Should I go ahead and order the Ispiron 1420 (price expires August 2), or wait and see if I can get a good deal on the XPS M1330 after August 2 and cancel the Ispiron 1420?
Also, if you have an EPP discount does Dell check to verify that you work for the company? -
lol nope. i said i just worked somewhere with an epp discount and they just added it for me lol

Thanks for the tips guys! Your advice was pretty spot on. I did go and check out a kiosk but they can't modify the prices you get online at all, according to the rep - he said the kiosks are mostly so people can see the actual product and to catch shoppers who usually don't know much about computers at all. He did say piles of people (I checked the one at Sherway Gardens in Toronto) use EPP to get the price down. So don't bother with the kiosks if you want to negotiate - you have to phone. However, just like boxcar's my first call to an agent was a total waste of time - she had no idea what EPP was (I had to tell her where the website was
) and got confused when I started to ask basic questions about price differences between processors
. I mean I know Dell's prices are pretty complicated but is it too much to ask for the agents to know the ins and outs of the products??? Anyway, I phoned again an hour later and hit a much better agent. Followed your advice and was nice and played poor. I kept saying I couldnt go above a certain price but needed features I knew would be more than that. Worked out OK - managed to wheedle a free bag out of of him
and the system I got was a little cheaper than the matching one I made on the web.
info on canadian discounts?
