my inspiron 9100 should be arriving in the next week or so, I'd just like to get a head start and ask everyone what the best course of action would be on receiving the laptop.

I plan to reformat to get rid of all the junk dell puts on the computer... then what does everyone recommend? which drivers, bios updates, etc. should I have ready?

    thanks a lot

Some people recommend making a partition on the harddrive so that the operating system, etc. is located separate from documents and downloads. I am thinking about doing this myself.

good move, then when the OS gets hosed you don't have to wipe all of your data files, just the partition with the OS.

you should recieve a drivers CD with the laptop. use that to load up the drivers for the new OS when you do the reformat.

A seperate partition for OS and docs. I never thought of doing that. Man, that would have been the best course of actoin for me since I have a ton of docs and websties saved on here (an backed up on CD). I would go with that after reformatting.

The CD that comes with your 9100 will have all of teh updated everything that you will need. Just go with the OS and drivers from there.
