I have the same issue with my 6000d.

Here is what you need to do:
Here is the manual for hinge covers It is an easy fix. First unplug and pull the battery out!!! Take a smaller flathead screw drivers. By the Page Up key there is a little grove where the silver and white part of the case meet. Pry up there gently. You will have to carefully ease the cover part from the hinge. Then take a small wrench and tighten the bolts on each side. Test it and then put the cover back on.

    The E1405 Service Manual

go to dell's support site and plug in your service tag. you can get detailed manuals.

you don't have to undo any screws. just pop off the strip where your power button is. you will see the hinges. i don't think you need to remove the battery or power off either. i do it all the time powered up and running.

For the sake of caution, I would unplug your laptop and remove the battery. Remember to press the power button a few times to get rid of all traces of power before opening. Follow the Dell service manual the first time, it's a cake opperation.

You do not need to, but remove the battery... it is better to be safe than sorry.
