The laptop in question is having issues of no display. I have tried to plug in a monitor via s-video as well as vga. I have had no result from either. I have attempted all of the processes through support.dell with no result. I have removed all customer removable items ( memory, hard drive, optical drive, battery) I was given an led code of number lock ON, caps lock BLINKING, and the box with an arrow pointing down BLINKING (I am not sure what this light refers to in the first place). I have tried viewing the manual from dell and have found no help on led flash codes only error messages, but since I can not get anything to display I can not see an error message. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure. Was brought to me by brother-in-law. May sound like dumb question but would manual list the components? not sure of how else to determine without being able to run sandra.

I started there and they would like to charge me 50 dollars. Trying to asses the problem before spending any money.

How did it all start? My inspiron 1420 also broke just a few days ago. I had the faulty 8400m GS. Basically what happened to me was that the computer would just freeze and then it would restart by itself and then my display was gone. This was actually the second time that this happened. The first time it happened I was still under warranty and got my motherboard replaced.

Here is a link that might help. http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/archive/2008/09/12/nvidia-gpu-update-limited-warranty-enhancement-details.aspx

Well I am not sure truely how it started all I know is the issue is now in my hands and I am to try to fix if so I get a new laptop out of the whole deal so I am trying to see if there are other fixes than replacing the motherboard or screen.
