I doubt it is SATA 3. Besides most normal hard drives don't even saturate SATA 1 speeds, even with a SATA 3 drive unless you are copying data 24/7 normal usage won't saturate SATA 2.

I didn't see USB 3.0 as an option, Dell may add it in later.

I am almost certain that they do. It says in the specs that it has a HM67 Intel chipset, which, according to this page, has support for SATA 6gb/s. It is possible, however, that Dell decided not to include this feature, like Apple did with USB 3, but that would be incredibly stupid and pointless (but then, it is Dell so I wouldn't be too surprised).

Yes the chipset supports SATA 3 but not every manufacturer has to support it.

Even with SATA 3 SSD, unless you are copying data 24/7, SATA 2 speeds are more than sufficient.

That is true, though I see no reason why they wouldn't incorporate it if it's already supported. Though, ultimately, like you said, even the absurdly fast Vertex 3 (which I am also looking into buying) would have difficulty saturating an SATA II cable, so it's not a huge deal unless you're doing some serious work.

the new vertex 3 has at least 500MB/s read and write so it is already saturated.

n4110 turned up yesterday. quite a nice little system and will perform well for what it was bought for - for mum to sit on the couch and facebook.

bloatware didnt seem out of control altho i got rid of that dell dock crap pretty quickly.

    screen looks good.

battery went for about 4.5 hours yesterday while it was doing windows updates with reboots and just generally installing software and setting up skype etc. happy with that.

I have a 14r 4010 and when I received it, I took it apart to see whats inside. It only has one half-height mini pci-e slot which is used for wifi. There is no wifi blacklist so feel free to replace with whatever card you want. I swapped it out with an Atheros AR9287 300mbps N card. The card that was in it was a WiMax card with "Centrino N." I swapped it out because I have absolutely no use for WiMax and the Atheros card performs better. One thing I have to mention is that the hard drive is a pain in the neck to get to. You have to actually take out the motherboard and turn it over to get to it. I've never seen a manufacturer have the hard drive actually attach to the bottom of a motherboard. So, if you plan on upgrading the hard drive like I did, make sure its the exact one you want to save yourself a lot of swearing. I put in a 500GB Seagate 7200RPM drive. 5400RPM is good for storage but not a main drive in my opinion. I'm looking for an optical bay hard drive adapter so I can add a second hard drive so I can add an SSD as the main drive. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Using HWinfo32 it shows my OCZ Agility 3 as being connected by a Sata 6 Gb/s interface. I believe that is sata III. As to the person asking if there are any extra Pci-e inside, Mine had an additional mini pcie besides the one with the wifi card. Though on mine it isn't usable because the connector is facing the wrong way and is being blocked by the headphone jacks.

Could you post CrystalDiskMark results to confirm official SATA 3 support?

I am planning to buy hdd/ssd caddy and install SSD on cd drive bay. Can anybody tell me if the SATA interface that is there on CD drive is it SATA III, I am asking this because i don't have tear my computer apart to install SSD on SATA III interface.

here the link to caddy that i am planning to buy :
2nd HDD / SSD Caddy for DELL Inspiron 14R (N4110) [OBHD-SATA12-SATA-BU] - $44.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

jbdarkblue said that he was able to connect OCZ to SATA III on internal SATA connector.

The only reason i am asking this is to avoid hassle to open my laptop, as its attached to bottom of motherboard.

    Thanks

    Hi,
Seems from this thread that the 4110 does support SATA III. Will the eSATA port on this laptop also deliver the same speed of 6 Gb/s?
Am trying to figure out if I should get a USB3.0 External SSD or an eSATA one for better performance. The workload will be backup and encoding of 1080p Video files.
    Thanks in anticipation.
